Guide
Curaçao airport guide

Short answer
Fill in the Digital Immigration Card in the week before you fly, then, if you hold an eligible chip passport, share it through the free Airside app so you can use the Curaçao Express Pass eGates on arrival. Pick up a pre-booked rental car or take a licensed taxi (agree the fare first). On the way home, budget two to three hours at the airport, and use CBP's own Mobile Passport Control app for re-entry at your US airport.
Our tip: getting in is easy with Airside. It's a Curaçao thing, not a US one. Airside is the app Curaçao's immigration service uses for its Express Pass: you verify your passport and face on your phone before you land and walk through the eGates instead of waiting at a booth. It doesn't cover the trip home: re-entering the US uses CBP's own MPC app (see Leaving).

Arrival, step by step
Before you fly 2. Curaçao Express Pass via the Airside app (optional, free). After the DI card, download the Airside Digital Identity App. Starting 7 days before arrival, scan your chip passport, take a face scan, pick your arrival date and consent to share it with immigration; you can add the pass to Apple or Google Wallet. Phone only, no tablets or computers. - Who qualifies: 16 and older per Airside, with an e-passport (chip) from the US, Canada, the UK, EU and several other listed countries. Conflict: the tourist board says the eGates are for visitors 18 and older, and families travelling with children under 18 are sent to the officer queue. Plan for the officer line if you have kids. - Delays: your shared data is deleted the day after your stated arrival date; if your flight slips past that, resubmit with the new date. - Still bring your passport. It's a legal requirement.
At Hato 3. Immigration. Eligible Express Pass travellers use the signed lane and "simply show their faces" at Vision-Box eGates; everyone else sees an officer. Airside claims it cuts processing time by more than half (vendor claim). Admission is always the officer's decision. 5. Out the door: rental desks, taxis or your transfer (below).
Getting from the airport
Rental car vs. shuttle or taxi
Most visitors staying a week want a car (see and for desks, on- vs. off-airport pickup and insurance). If you're staying in Pietermaai or Punda for a short trip, a taxi or transfer and then day tours can work.
Taxis
- Licensed taxis have "TX" on the plate and a yellow roof sign; the rank is outside arrivals.
- No meters. Fares are government-set by zone; agree the price and whether it's per car or per person before you get in. Night rates (after 11 p.m.) are 25% higher. Uber and Lyft don't operate.
- No current official fare table is published. Typical fares are below; treat them as a reference, not a quote.
| Airport to… | Distance / free-flow drive | Tourist board "maximum fare" examples (undated) | App platform rate (Kumbai, 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Willemstad (Otrobanda / centre) | 11 km / ~15 min | Otrobanda (zone 5): US$45 | $40–45 |
| Piscadera (Marriott, Hilton, Floris) | — | Zone 8: US$30 | $35 |
| Mambo Beach | 16 km / ~20 min | Zone 4: US$50 | $45 |
| Jan Thiel | 20 km / ~26 min | Zone 3: US$60 | $50–55 |
| Blue Bay | — | — | $40 |
| Santa Barbara (Sandals) | — | — | $75 |
| Westpunt | 36 km / ~47 min | — | $60–65 |
- Tipping: the tourist board says taxi drivers are usually tipped about 10%.
- Buses: there's no direct airport bus to the beach areas; every route starts and ends in Willemstad.
Lounge, food and duty-free
- VIP Lounge (the airport's own): airside, after passport and security, turn left through duty-free; opposite Gate 4. Open daily 08:30–20:30, subject to flights. Maximum 3-hour stay; under-3s free.
- Walk-in day pass (from Mar 1, 2026): US$55 off-peak and US$63 at peak times (winter peak 10:00–18:00; summer peak 09:00–18:00).
- Accepts Priority Pass, LoungeKey, Diners Club and DragonPass; Priority Pass members get two alcoholic drinks each and may be turned away at peak times.
- Showers, Wi-Fi, a bar, light snacks and a kids' corner.
Leaving: departure tips
- How early: the airport says to ask your airline. Frequent visitors on a public forum say 2 hours without checked bags and about 3 hours with bags or in peak season, because check-in counters for a once-a-day flight open late and queues build fast (traveller reports, not official).
- Returning the car: leave time for the rental return and shuttle.
- Coming back into the US: Curaçao has no US preclearance , so you clear US customs at your arrival airport. Use CBP's Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app there: free, groups up to 12 on one phone, submit up to 4 hours before landing, then use the MPC line. The Airside app no longer does this: Airside's old Mobile Passport app stopped handling US entry on Feb 1, 2022, when CBP made its own MPC app the only authorised one.
