SEA
1. Klein Curaçao day trip, with Mermaid ★ recommended operator
- A whole day on an uninhabited island with white sand, a lighthouse and a shipwreck on the beach. We'd go with Mermaid, because they run the only beach house out there.
- For: Stay. Cruise: No. Boarding is 06:45 at Fishermen's Pier, and "all aboard" on Klein Curaçao is 15:20 for the two-hour ride back (mermaidboattrips.com).
- Included (per Mermaid's site):
- Tea or coffee on board, and a buffet lunch at the beach house (chicken, spare ribs, burgers, corn, salads, fruit)
- Free snorkel masks, beach chairs and a private volleyball court
- Mermaid's beach house: thatched patio, shade, clean bathrooms. Mermaid says it's the only beach house on Klein Curaçao
- Scuba options on request
- Sailing days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so no Thursday (mermaidboattrips.com). Third-party listings disagree (some say "daily except Saturday"), so Mermaid's own site wins.
2. Private boat on Spaanse Water
- Your own boat and captain on the island's big inland bay: calm water, a swim stop, and no schedule but yours.
- For: Stay (groups, couples, celebrations). Cruise: Tight. Charters run about 4 h; possible on a long call with a short transfer.
- Length: Typically 4 h for a half-day private charter.
- Included (typical, per operator listings): captain, fuel, soft drinks and snacks, snorkel gear. Food and alcohol vary by boat.
3. Sunset catamaran
- Two and a half hours on the water while the light turns gold. You leave from Caracas Bay or Mambo, drink in hand.
- For: Stay. Cruise: No for nearly all calls (17:00–17:30 departures).
- Length: About 2.5 h.
- Options (per the operators):
- Irie Tours: Mon/Wed/Fri at 17:00 from Village Marina, Caracas Bay. Open bar and finger food. The route crosses Spanish Water, then heads to the open sea, and goes toward St. Anna Bay when conditions allow. Free pickup in the Jan Thiel area (irietours.com).
- BlueFinn: 17:30 from the Mood Beach pier on Mambo Boulevard, back about 20:00. Premium open bar with hot and cold bites (bluefinncharters.com). BlueFinn is in our pins.
4. Scuba with Dive Center Pietermaai
- Name check: The shop is Dive Center Pietermaai, at Kaya Wilson (Papa) Godett 80, Pietermaai, +599 9 699 8877. It calls itself a "PADI 5-Star IDC Resort" (divecenterpietermaai.com).
- A dive shop in the middle of Pietermaai, for a first-ever try-dive or a full day on the west-coast reefs.
- For: Stay, and cruise. Cruise: Yes for a Discover Scuba or a single guided dive. Pietermaai is next to Punda. Tight for the 2-tank trip. No for the full day.
- Products (per the shop):
- 2-Tank Guided Shore Dive (small groups, gear rental available)
- Discover Scuba Dive (no certification; one guided shallow-reef dive)
- Westpoint Full-Day Trip in the red "Scubabus" (two west-coast sites, lunch and transport included)
- Night dive, lionfish hunt, refresher dive, and PADI courses up to instructor level
5. Tugboat & Caracas Bay snorkel
- A coral-covered tugboat in about 5 m of calm water, an 18th-century fort on the hill, and Directors Bay next door.
- For: Stay and cruise. Cruise: Yes. About 17 min drive from Willemstad (exploringcuracao.com).
- Facts:
- The wreck lies at about 5 m, roughly a 10-minute swim from Tugboat Beach (exploringcuracao.com; PADI dive-site page).
- Fort Beekenburg was built from 1703 to protect Spanish Water. It's free to visit, but not wheelchair accessible (exploringcuracao.com).
- Directors Bay is the former Shell executives' beach. It's about 200 m by water to the Tugboat, so it suits fitter swimmers (exploringcuracao.com).
LAND
6. Christoffel Park hike
- The island's signature climb, done the right way: start early, finish before the heat, and take the view home.
- For: Stay. Cruise: No. Summit climbs must start before 10:00, and the park is far from the port.
- Included: park entry. All trails can be hiked without a guide. The park offers excursion guides and ranger-led open-Jeep safaris, plus 2 paved scenic car routes (christoffelpark.org).
- Bring: 2 L of water (sold at the ticket office), sunscreen, hiking shoes and a hat (christoffelpark.org).

- Included: beach stops, snorkel time and a lunch stop, depending on the operator.
10. Flamingos at Jan Kok + Chobolobo
- Wild flamingos on the salt pans in the morning light, then the landhuis where Senior & Co. makes the genuine Curaçao liqueur.
- For: Stay. Cruise: Tight (Jan Kok is a west-side drive; Chobolobo alone is a Yes).
- Length:
- Chobolobo standard tour: 60 min. Cocktail workshop: about 120 min (chobolobo.com).
- Details:
- Jan Kok: flamingos are present year-round, but numbers vary. Early morning or late afternoon is best. Stay on the roadside, keep quiet, and don't walk into the pans or fly drones (curacaoescape.com; visitcuracao365.com).
- Chobolobo: the distillery is open Monday–Friday. Open Monday–Friday 08:00–17:00. Guided tours start at 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00. Tours include tastings, and alcohol is served 18+ only; under-13s join the standard tour free (chobolobo.com).
